New Parents App and Website

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The product:
New Parents is a new web platform focused on helping new parents raise their children. As a new brand, it needed a mobile app and a responsive website. On the platform, people can find parent education, information about baby care, tools, a new parent forum, and more.

Project duration:

March-May 2022

My role:

UX designer / UX researcher

UX designer leading the app and responsive website

The problem:

New parents have many doubts and questions about their newborns and parenting. Parenthood is extremely rewarding, but it's not easy and definitely comes with many questions. Parents need reliable information and tools to help them in their mission.

The goal:

I designed a mobile app and responsive website to improve new parents' education and help them raise a healthy child. The platform provided quality and reliable content to enable them to do so.

USER RESEARCH

Summary:
I used information and data from reliable websites/platforms to develop interview questions, which were then used to conduct user interviews. Most interview participants were excited as new parents and very open to educating themselves via the web portal/mobile app. The feedback received through research made it clear that users would like access to an easy-to-use tool to help guide them. They are mostly members of the newer generation who learn information on a daily basis via electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, or desktops.

Problem Statement
Anna is a financial adviser and a new mom who needs useful education, information, and tools to raise her child. That stuff should be easily accessible, and she uses both her smartphone and iPad to access that information.

STARTING THE DESIGN

Competitive audit
An audit of a few competitors’ products provided direction on gaps and opportunities to address with the New Parents app.

Paper Wireframes

Digital Wireframes

Lo-Fi Prototype

Usability Study Parameters

 Study type: Unmoderated

Participants: 5 participants

Length: 30-60 min

Location: Boston

REFINING THE DESIGN

Mockups

HI-FI Prototype

The high-fidelity prototype maintained the same user flow as the low-fidelity prototype, incorporating design changes from the usability study.

Accessibility Considerations

1. Voice search option allows people to find information just by using their voice

2. Clear labels for interactive elements that can be read by screen readers.

RESPONSIVE DESIGN

I designed the screens for mobile, tablet, and desktop, optimizing them to fit the specific user needs of each device and screen size.

Takeaways

Impact
People are enjoying using our platform (both mobile app and website), and we have received amazing feedback. One quote from a peer was, 'The New Parents app helps me care for my baby. There is a lot of useful info available.

What I learned
While working on this project, I learned a lot of new techniques used in research, mobile app development, and testing. Creating a responsive website that works well on all platforms was a challenging process, but it was also the most beneficial for me.
